Happy Birthday Greyhound Pets of America

20 years ago this month, GPA opened its doors for business. Our first greyhound to be adopted was from one of our original chapters, GPA-Massachusetts, the greyhound’s name, Rise. No one at that time could have known how appropriate that name would be for a young organization that would eventually grow to be the worlds largest single breed adoption program.

I would like to say thank you and offer my warmest congratulation to all the volunteers who have participated with GPA in the last 20 years and also my best wishes for another 20 years of continued service. It’s because of you that we have been able to defy all the odds, naysayer’s and have found homes for over 65,000 greyhounds.

I personally have always felt at home in GPA, because of your professionalism, fellowship, and service. Together we have contributed to the quality of many households by introducing them to the wonders of greyhounds as pets.

I believe our future is bright, but only if we are able to improve upon the past and tackle the challenges of today and by ‘we’ I mean all involved in the lives of the racing greyhounds.

Your service and commitment is greatly appreciated,

Happy Birthday GPA

Rory

Tucson Greyhound Park - a new attitude

For immediate release
Wednesday, February 14, 2007

Rory Goree’, President of Greyhound Pets of America announced at the Arizona Department of Racing commissioners meeting that an agreement has been reached with Tucson Greyhound Park, to set up a GPA chapter, known as Greyhound Pets of America – Tucson on site. This agreement is subject to approval of the GPA-Sub chapter committee and approval of members of the GPA-Tucson BOD. Until this agreement is final, there will not be any other organizational announcements made.

When we reach a final agreement is reached and all appropriate approvals have been processed, GPA-Tucson will become a sub chapter of GPA said Goree'.

The next few weeks will be busy, exciting and challenging ones said Goree’. Please be patient with us through this time as we have much work to accomplish, Goree’ also noted that this will not be an easy task, but he knows the volunteers of the greyhound adoption world are people who take difficulties and turn them into miracles.. Negotiations regarding this organization have been in the process for several months, Goree’ noted, and now have finally reached a point that all parties agree that this was the appropriate thing to do on behalf to the greyhounds at Tucson Greyhound Park and that the appropriate support will be in place to assist the chapter.

Greyhound Pets of America is the largest single breed adoption program in the nation. GPA adopts out or assists in the adoption of 5,000 greyhounds each year, since GPA opened its doors in 1986, 75,000 greyhounds have been placed into loving homes by GPA volunteers.
